Using The Right Web Development Solutions For Your Internet Business

CMS Web Development – The Best Solutions For A New Internet Business

Lately, a web presence has become mandatory for any type of business, no matter the activity or size. The first step is creating a web site, but this is not where creating an online presence ends. Once the site is up and running, its maintenance and the necessity for updates and new features pose new challenges for any business.

An open source Content Management System (CMS) can be extremely helpful as such a software package allows for easy updates by non-technical staff members of your business. A CMS can be downloaded without any cost as they are Open source platforms. This is just one of the advantages of such systems. There are four popular open source CMS, namely WordPress, Joomla!, OScommerce and Magento. Each of them differs in flexibility, features, ease of use and support.

A CMS can streamline the processes that make up a business. Many small and mid-size business owners have limited technical knowledge and so a content management system makes sense as you do not really need lots ot technical knowledge to maintain it although the use of a web solution provider, web designer or someone specialising in open source platforms initally will make the process faster.

A CMS stores content, be it text or images in a database. The content can be automatically be pulled out of this database and will appears on the appropriate pages when people wish to view it. You can even set rules as to how this content appears and where on the page. The staff members that are writing and publishing information on your site do not have to worry about technical issues, how to organise content or which rules to use as the setting variables for these systems are very flexible and a good web solution provider or webdesigner should set these up for you.

Content and graphic designs on a CMS are made through use of themes, these can be pre-packaged or you can have one created especially for you from a PSD image. Tailor made web solutions are common and very useful if you already have a business brand that you want to bring to your online internet business, these also help withestablishing online credibility.

Magento and OsCommerce are more complex than WordPress and Joomla in terms of how easily they are installed. With WordPress you can have a simple site up and running without investing much time in the process. Joomla has many themes but navigation and creating a site structure require more in-depth understanding of the concepts. With OsCommerce theme setup and navigation are easy if you know HTML well.

WordPress is the easiest to use if you are interesting in a more informal approach to your customer base and is the least complex system of the four. Joomla involves terminology and structure that is more time consuming although it has the added advantage of a more corporate page look and feel. Oscommerce is best suited to ecommerce and is even more complex, as there is a large number of options, settings and screens.

All of these systems work really well and are extremely easy to maintain if set up properly in the first place by a good web solution provider or web designer who understands them, they will ensure that your fledgling business online will start off in the correct way.
